Night of 1000 Plays
Seoul Players will be presenting our 2nd Annual Night of 1000 Plays in
October. This is an event in which original `short-short` (maximum 3
minutes) pieces are performed - as many as we can cram into one show! But this show can`t happen without YOU, whether you are a writer,
director, actor, technician, or just want to help! Absolutely no
experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome to join in the fun!
This is also a great chance for you to try something you`ve never done
before - an director who wants to write, an actor who wants to direct,
a writer who wants to act - or if you`ve never done any of the above
and want to give it a shot!
It`s as easy as 1-2-3:
- Writers submit original pieces.
- Directors and actors are divided into groups to rehearse several pieces each.
- With the help of technicians and other volunteers, everyone puts on
a great show!
Directors, actors, and technicians - we`ll be sending out a separate
email in a few weeks detailing how you can become involved, but please
keep three key dates in mind:
- September 19th - Organizational Meeting
- October 10th - Performance
- October 17th - Performance
Writers, you`re up! Here`s what we need:
- Original, short pieces - maximum 3 minutes in length. They can be
comedic, dramatic, musical, whatever your imagination can come up
with!
- Any language and content are acceptable, within reason, but please
don`t be offensive, particularly toward our host country. Thanks!
- We will do our best to fit all the pieces in, but it may not be
possible due to time restrictions - but the more pieces you submit,
the better chance you have!
- You are also welcome to come out as a director, actor, or volunteer
if you`d like.
- The deadline for submissions is August 21st.
If you have any further question, please don`t hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to working with all of you!
Expat Theater Group Declares Urgent Call for Submissions
By Bryan Kay,
Staff Reporter - The Korea Times
The Seoul Players expat theater group has issued an urgent call to experienced and aspiring writers to submit scripts for its upcoming show Night of the 1000 Plays.
With the deadline for submissions fast approaching, organizers have revealed that the level of interest from writers has so far been disappointing.
But Pamela Munoz, a group spokesperson, said that while the lack of scripts submitted so far has not yet reached the crisis stage, organizers are already considering pushing back the deadline ― set for Saturday ― in a bid to increase the number of manuscripts they have at their disposal.
Munoz said that the numbers received for the extravaganza are currently at around half the level sent in last year, leading the group to issue the urgent call for late submissions.
``Our deadline is approaching and we've had fewer script entries than last year," she said. ``We're willing to extend the deadline by a few days if we see a surge of interest over this next week.
``This is a great theatrical event that involves a large number of members from the community. We're inviting experienced writers or newbies to write and participate, and then we'll select the best skits that meet with our criteria."
Munoz said the group is looking for original, short pieces that run to a maximum of three minutes, and can cover a diverse field of genres ― from comedic and dramatic to musical.
She said that the scripts can be written in any language, with the group remaining open to the make-up of the content as long as it is not offensive, particularly toward Korea.
Once the successful scripts are determined, a meeting will be held at 8 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Ghetto Vox bar in Itaewon when participants will be divided up into groups with their allocated scripts.
``We think this would be a great project for instructors of ESL ― especially for those teaching older students ― to encourage their students to write a short script," continued Munoz. ``Or, if they prefer, to come to the show and write a report on it.
``I'm sure these instructors would think this project would be valuable for some extra credit or as an interesting 'out-of-the-box' learning technique."
The final production is scheduled for Oct. 10 and 17 at 8 p.m. at Ghetto Vox. Tickets, which will be available on the door, are priced at 10,000 won for either night, or 15,000 won for both.
Anyone interested in submitting a script should e-mail info@seoulplayers.com to obtain the necessary information.
